My mom is the activities committee chairperson for their ward, and the Christmas party theme this year is "Christmas in Nauvoo". They wanted to have a replica of the Scovil Bakery, a building that is actually IN Nauvoo, to serve desserts from. A great guy across the street built the flats for them, but then they needed some painting. . .
Ben and I set about using our Scenic painting skills to make it look authentic. . . And I was pretty happy with the results, even if we are a little rusty.
Here is a step by step of how it went together:
The original flats with no paint
Base coat of brick red and a texture coat sponged on in a slightly lighter shade
After spattering for texture, painting on mortar lines, and basing in the window frames and sign
(I should have taken one before this, but the camera battery had to be recharged)
The finished bakery! (with shadows, lettering and a roof line)
In the end, I felt it was the least I could do. My parents DID pay my tuition while I learned this stuff at BYU, after all. And I'm not sure they thought I'd ever get a job, studying stuff like this.
Hopefully the pies that are baked there will be wonderful.

OH my goodness! Good job! Now you can build your own bakery...
That is awesome! I wish I was half that crafty.
My parents said the same thing about my theater major. Weren't we in scenic painting together? I'm very impressed with your brick painting abilities. It looks great!
Impressive!
An ode to the parentals is always appreciated.
That turned out great! :) I was there earlier this month! Had a gingerbread cookie in there too! :)
That's great! I'm very impressed by your skills learned in school. And it's exciting that the two of you were able to do it together.
what a cute, memorable activity! I am sure it DRAINED your time, but what a darling result!
Now, all you need to do is take a vacation and come visit the REAL Scovil Bakery. Nauvoo is 3 hours from me. Hint hint.
Wow! That turned out AWESOME!!
